Star Wars Character Countdown: The Yuuzhan Vong

12:00 PM 0

Today's character for our Character Countdown to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (which opens December 18th) is less of a character and more of a species.

The Yuuzhan Vong are/were a troublesome species for a number of societies and reasons. Perhaps the most significant trait these outsiders to the galaxy possessed was that, somehow, they existed mostly outside of The Force, despite being sentient beings themselves.

Video Game Release Trailers for Nov 27 - Dec 3, 2015

9:38 AM 0

So there are two ways of looking at the lateness of this week's Video Game Release Trailer post from my perspective. First, I told myself "Hey, it was a major holiday weekend. Totally understandable." Secondly, I saw that it would be a relatively slow week of releases as we recover from the blockbusters and gear up for the Christmas rush.

Either way, here are the video game trailers for this week:

My Impressions of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

10:58 PM 0
28 years after Hideo Kojima gave us the original Metal Gear on MSX2 he now closes the circle on the franchise with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The emotions this brings up for me are on par with the last episode of LOST or when I read the final paragraph of Stephen King’s Dark Tower epic. The telltale sign that you’ve experienced something special is when you realize that you’ve been pondering its ending for days, perhaps even longer. It’s been over a week since I finished the game and I still find my mind returning to its story as this one strikes a nerve deeper than any game before it.

This Date in Game History: Sony Unleashes the PlayStation

1:49 PM 0

It's hard to believe that Sony's behemoth of a franchise turns 20 years old today, but there it is.

On September 9, 1995, the PlayStation was unleashed on the United States to much fanfare. Since then, the series of machines has dominated the American - and worldwide - video game console market. The machine sold on Day One for $299 but the version first released would be far from the last.

This Weekend in Game History: Street Fighter The Movie The Game

11:13 PM 0

How awesome is Street Fighter. You'll notice that's not a question. It's a statement.

Now, how awesome was Street Fighter the movie? That's definitely a question and it's a question whose answer is completely dependent on the person that answers it. Some - like myself - would say that the flick featuring Raul Julia and Jean-Claude Van Damme is completely and unintentionally hilarious and therefore awesome. Others would call it just plain terrible.

It Sucks to Suck

1:07 PM 0

In the Army, we had a saying. More accurately, we had a lot of sayings, but the one I'm focusing on today is "Embrace the suck."

The phrase goes beyond the typical "tough shit." Instead, it encourages you to not only accept the worst parts of a situation but to dive headlong into it armed with the knowledge that at the end you'll be better at the task thanks to those efforts.

But that doesn't always work.

Plus, what makes a good boss and how should that aspect of video gaming evolve? The discussion is ripe for creative minds. Weigh in with your own opinions today.
